What is the difference between ECT and Mullen board?
The difference between ECT and Mullen board stems from the difference in the tests used to measure box strength, both edge crush and burst strength. Please click here to go to the ECT vs. Mullen page to learn more.

What does the stamp on the bottom of the boxes mean?
The stamp on the bottom of almost all boxes, (also known as a BMC or Box Makers Certificate) is often round and contains information about the performance ability of the box as well as paper specifications. Usually, this certificate also has the name and location of the box manufacturer. This BMC typically states the minimum ECT or Mullen value of the box (to learn more about what boxes are made of click here).

Does Bates use recycled paper?
Unless specified by the customer, Bates Container uses 100% recycled liner and medium when manufacturing boxes. Bates does everything possible in order to help preserve and protect the environment, from an in-house waste water treatment plant to voluntary air emissions testing.

What is the minimum order for custom boxes?
Although there is no set minimum, a good rule of thumb is 1000 medium size boxes make up a minimum order. Because we are a manufacturer, not a distributor, we do not sell small quantities of boxes to individuals.

What is the lead time on an order of boxes?
Among the lowest in the industry, Bates lead times can be as little as 12 hours from order to delivery of a custom made box. If tooling, such as cutting or print dies, is required, lead time for a rush order could be 2-4 days. Our typical lead time for repeat items (items we've run in the past and have tooling for) is 1-3 days.

What is the largest box that Bates can manufacture?
With the recent purchase of a new jumbo flexo folder-gluer, Bates Container is able to run a box in one piece as large as 48" x 47" x 50". This machine is able to print and die cut sheets larger than 15 feet wide.

What is the smallest box that Bates can manufacture?
Although no absolute minimum, there are limitations to what Bates can run in-house. Typically, any box smaller than 6" x 4" x 6" can't be run in Bates' facilities. Because of our association with FirstPak, we do have arrangements to work through other facilities which can run boxes smaller than this.

What geographic areas does Bates sell to?
Although Bates can sell to any location in the world, the cost of transporting corrugated boxes usually hinders our ability to be competitive outside of a 300 mile range from our manufacturing facilities. We're most competitive in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mexico. We are able to be competitive nationally through our associate FirstPak members, in which we subcontract other members to manufacture our boxes for us in areas outside our competitive geographic range.
